IPSPedia: Journal of Social Studies Education is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal dedicated to advancing the scholarly discourse, pedagogical methodology, and curricular paradigms of social studies education. The journal serves as a vital academic forum for the critical examination of how historical, geographical, economic, civic, and sociological disciplines are integrated and taught within educational systems. By exploring the intersection of macro-societal transformations, democratic values, and classroom practices, IPSPedia aims to enrich global perspectives on cultivating critical thinking, civic competence, and cultural literacy in an increasingly complex and interconnected world.

Scope and Topics

The journal invites high-quality original research articles, theoretical analyses, and innovative case studies that address systemic challenges and trends in social education. The scope encompasses, but is not limited to, the following thematic areas:

  • Pedagogy & Curriculum Design in Social Studies: Innovative instructional strategies, thematic integration of social sciences, critical pedagogy, project-based learning, and curriculum evaluation models.

  • Civic Education & Global Citizenship: Democratic literacy, human rights education, socio-political awareness, community engagement, and fostering cross-cultural understanding in pluralistic societies.

  • Digital Humanities & Educational Technology: The utilization of digital archives, geographic information systems (GIS) in education, immersive technologies (AI, VR/AR), and media literacy within social studies contexts.

  • Teacher Professional Development & Policy: Pre-service teacher training, continuous professional cultivation for educators, educational policies shaping humanities curricula, and comparative social studies education frameworks.

Publication Frequency

IPSPedia is published semi-annually (2 issues per year), released systematically in June and December. The journal maintains a rigorous, timely digital publication cycle to ensure rapid access to validated educational research for global audiences.

Peer Review Process

To guarantee objective evaluation and safeguard the highest benchmarks of academic integrity, IPSPedia adheres to a strict Double-blind Peer Review protocol. Initial submissions undergo an editorial screening for originality, scope alignment, and structural cohesion. Manuscripts that meet these criteria are subsequently evaluated by at least two independent, external peer reviewers who possess deep expertise in social studies education and social science methodologies. Final acceptance determinations are managed by the editorial board based on reviewer feedback.

Mission Statement: "The mission of IPSPedia is to inspire transformative dialogue and drive systemic improvements in social studies education by offering an unrestricted open-access platform. The journal is committed to empowering educators, curriculum developers, researchers, and policymakers with the evidence-based insights and analytical frameworks necessary to nurture informed, responsible, and globally-conscious citizens."
